Why withyou?

Withyou was founded on two key realizations: an understanding that the moment we are in will generally reduce a mother’s options, and that carrying a baby to full term for adoption was a vastly overlooked and underutilized option for reasons we could address.

Withyou was founded on two key realizations. First was understanding that the moment we are in will generally reduce a mother’s options, putting unprecedented strain on community resource centers that are already running as lean as possible.

Next was the realization that carrying a baby to full term for adoption was a vastly overlooked and underutilized option for reasons we could address. We’ll cover those reasons in more detail in a later blog, but the short version is that the adoption option is overlooked because:

  • There are misconceptions about adoption.
  • There are seven general barriers to this option that collectively push a woman toward abortion or parenting–even when she is ill-prepared to parent.
  • Although communities generally have all the resources necessary to support a women through an unplanned pregnancy, those resources are disparate, often unvetted, and uncoordinated. As a result, an overwhelmed mother is expected to identify and coordinate all required resources at the right time. Naturally, this rarely occurs.

Having an unplanned pregnancy is a difficult moment for anyone to navigate. Many women would like to parent, but the burdens of their situation put them and their children at a real disadvantage. Countless organizations have arisen to help lift their burden, but so far these efforts have not been able to fully level the playing field.

The good news is we find ourselves in a new moment that requires new perspectives on how to best support her. We believe the solution is threefold, as follows.

1. Coordinate the complexity

The healthcare industry has shown that case management interventions–or a system that turns many plans into one simple plan to follow–improves the coordination and continuity of care, leading to improved outcomes. This solution is equally applicable to the journey a mother with an unplanned pregnancy will follow.

2. Make adoption accessible

Withyou takes an innovative approach to surprise pregnancies that addresses to varying extents all seven barriers that prevent women from carrying a baby to full-term for adoption. By reducing all barriers to varying extents, it makes it easier for a mother to pursue this option whenever she expects it to be the best option for her and her baby.

3. Use intelligent technology that interacts with mothers as they prefer.
