Withyou was founded on two key realizations. First was understanding that the moment we are in will generally reduce a mother’s options, putting unprecedented strain on community resource centers that are already running as lean as possible.
Next was the realization that carrying a baby to full term for adoption was a vastly overlooked and underutilized option for reasons we could address. We’ll cover those reasons in more detail in a later blog, but the short version is that the adoption option is overlooked because:
- There are misconceptions about adoption.
- There are seven general barriers to this option that collectively push a woman toward abortion or parenting–even when she is ill-prepared to parent.
- Although communities generally have all the resources necessary to support a women through an unplanned pregnancy, those resources are disparate, often unvetted, and uncoordinated. As a result, an overwhelmed mother is expected to identify and coordinate all required resources at the right time. Naturally, this rarely occurs.
Having an unplanned pregnancy is a difficult moment for anyone to navigate. Many women would like to parent, but the burdens of their situation put them and their children at a real disadvantage. Countless organizations have arisen to help lift their burden, but so far these efforts have not been able to fully level the playing field.
